I paint to tell a story about a glimpse in time. I want somehow to catch the world in the moments between what we are on our way to and what we are leaving behind. I want us to remember the glances at the beauty of our natural world, the people we love, and the very things that remind us of the wonder of our world. I can’t imagine not painting and don’t remember a time when art was not important to me.
I am an oil painter. If at all possible I start with a plein air painting. Sometimes I will paint several paintings of the same spot to find the best time of day, the best light, and the best composition. Sometimes a plein air painting is my finished piece but it also serves as my “color memory” for larger studio works.

To paint in a place will give more life to a painting than anything I know. Later, when doing a larger piece in my studio, I use my visual memory to remind me of the feel of that day and what thrilled me in the first place. It is that glimpse that took my breath away that first inspired me to stop, set up my easel, and capture in paint a moment in time.
I am mostly a painter of landscapes. When I paint people I like to show them in their world. It is my hope to capture the loveliness around me to remind myself that I am a steward of this planet.
It is simply my pleasure to catch the world’s moments and to share those with others. You may have passed this way yourself. And if you have, you may want to have that moment captured for your memories. I also do paintings of people’s favorite views and places. I believe it is our memory of glances and glimpses that inspire us throughout our days and our lives. I hope you enjoy the view.
